'Power Rangers' is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film intended as the reboot of the popular television series of the same name that aired in the 1990s. David Denman joins the ever-growing cast to play Sam Scott, red ranger Jason's father. Filming is set to begin in Kamloops on April.
According to Variety, Denman has been cast as the Red Ranger's father in the upcoming 'Power Rangers' movie reboot. The 42-year old actor will portray Sam Scott, father to Dacre Montgomery's Jason.
Denman is best known for his roles on television series such as 'The Office', 'Traffic Light' and 'How To Get Away With Murder'. He also worked on full-feature films including 'When A Stranger Calls', 'Fanboys', 'Jobs' and '13 Hours'.
Other members of the cast include Becky G as the yellow ranger Trini Kwan, Naomi Scott as the pink ranger Kimberly Hart, RJ Cyler as the blue ranger Billy Cranston and Ludi Lin as black ranger Zack Taylor. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elizabeth Banks will be portraying the iconic villainess Rita Repulsa in the upcoming film.
The reboot will center on a group of highschoolers chosen to protect the world from extraterrestrial threats. They are given superhuman abilities in order to defeat Rita Repulsa and other equally antagonistic alien invaders. It will be a reimagining of the original children's television series that aired on Fox Kids in the 1990s and spawned a full-feature film 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie' in 1995.
The original series was also adapted from a Japanese television show called 'Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger', the 16th installment in the long-running Super Sentai franchise produced by Toei and Bandai.
Meanwhile, it was reported by Kamloops BC Now that filming for the 'Power Rangers' reboot will begin sometime in April in Kamloops. It was announced that Kamloops will be used as a stand-in for the fictional town of Angel Grove, where the film's setting will take place.
Victoria Weller of The Thompson-Nicola Film Commission announced, "We're very excited to have a movie film in the streets of Kamloops because residents can watch the action. I think it will be a lot of fun."
'Power Rangers' is an upcoming action-adventure film scheduled to be released on March 24, 2017. It is directed by Dean Israelite and penned for the big screen by John Gatins, Max Landis, Ashley Miller, Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless and Zack Stentz.
