Good news for LG G2 owners because a new benchmark test shows that variants of the device can still be possible for official upgrade to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow via over-the-air (OTA) release. Verizon Wireless's latest test revealed that indeed LG G2 can still be qualified for Marshmallow.
A result of benchmark test on LG G2 units of Verizon Wireless for Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow had been leaked confirming speculations that the device is still eligible for official upgrade. According to a report, LG is not in a hurry to roll out Marshmallow on the device, pointing why it was not confirmed for upgrade last year unlike its predecessors. The information first leaked last February via Geekbench.
In fact, LG G2 hit considerably outstanding points, which sparked speculations back then that the phone might be brought backs to the Marshmallow scene.
However, said report stressed out that this leaked information does not directly point out Marshmallow coming soon. Nevertheless, custom ROMs based on Android Marshmallow have been made available for the device, such as CyanogenMod 13 and Cataclysm.
Only G2 units under T-Mobile (D801), AT&T (D800), those in Canada (D803) and LTE versions distributed internationally (D802) are supported by CyanogenMod 13 custom ROM. As of the moment, Verizon Wireless already have 17 devices in the Marshmallow department, including its units of G4, G3 and V10.
Going back last year, G2 was already announced to be excluded from Marshmallow upgrade. This announcement brought many device owners at rage, most venting their ire in community forums.
Aside from being the most polished software version in Android's history, Marshmallow has been the most sought-after Android version for its advanced features centered on functionality.
LG has not issued any official statement until now. Moreover, the final destination of G2 units will be revealed as soon as any unit will be officially updated with Marshmallow.
