'Green Lantern Corps' is an upcoming 2020 superhero film that may feature a number of Green Lanterns including John Stewart. Tyrese Gibson may be in the running to play John in the planned adaptation of the DC comic book series of the same name. D.B. Woodside of 'Lucifer' fame expressed his enthusiasm for competing for the role as well.
According to Cinema Blend, Gibson hinted that he may finally get a shot at playing Green Lantern John Stewary for planned cinematic adaptation of the DC comic book superhero team-up of the same name. Although it has not been confirmed which of the leading Green Lanterns would make it to the scheduled 2020 film, Gibson has long been expressing interest at joining the film's cast.
The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter and actor spoke on Larry King's 'Larry King Now' about his possible involvement in the new science-fiction and adventure film in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). He said, "You know, there have been other artists, actors and actresses who have put up images of them as a comic book character and ended up landing a role. So I was like, it's worth giving it a shot."
Gibson admitted that although he has not heard from Zack Snyder yet, he did sit down with Warner Bros. and may be in contention for the role. Snyder, who directed the recently released 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice', is overseeing the projects under the DCEU. The filmmaker is also set to helm the upcoming two-part installment 'Justice League'.
According to IGN, Producer Charles Roven revealed that audiences may not be seeing the Green Lantern in the upcoming 'Justice League' films and would have to wait for future releases in the DCEU. He said, "Every beat of the movie is not yet worked out. So there's the possibility that he may or may not be in Justice League 2... For now, we felt that we were introducing enough characters that the best possible place we could put Green Lantern is some introduction in Justice League 2, or barring that, a movie after."
Meanwhile, 'Lucifer' star D.B. Woodside also revealed that he would also like to play John Stewart in the upcoming film. It seems that he is not intimidated by the other actors in contention for the role. According to MovieWeb, Woodside admitted that the Green Lantern had always been one of his favorite comic book characters growing up.
It was previously speculated that a number of Green Lantern characters may make it on the latest cinematic adaptation. A 2011 film directed by Martin Campbell starred Ryan Reynolds as the Green Lantern Hal Jordan. Other Green Lanterns such as John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, Guy Gardner and Alan Scott may also be featured in the upcoming film.
'Green Lantern Corps' is a planned reboot of the Green Lantern cinematic series intended as part of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). It is an adventure-fantasy film scheduled to be released on June 19, 2020 in the United States.
