'Deadpool 2' director Tim Miller revealed new details over the newest character Cable. His first film, released in 2016, officially became the highest-grossing R-rated film ever and is likely to surpass Bryan Singer's 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' as the top earning X-Men film in the franchise.
According to Comic Book Movie, Cable will make an appearance in Tim Miller's upcoming sequel to the blockbuster hit of the same name. He was teased in a post-credits scene in the original film.
Miller said, "I have an idea of what Cable should be from reading the comics. So, someone in Des Moines, Iowa may have a different idea of Cable from reading the comics. I may not like his idea. I might read it, but I may not do it. I would say I listen to all of them, but I don't look to them to guide me. I look to the comic and why people like these characters."
In the original comic books, geneticist Mr. Sinister created Cable as a son to Scott Summers a.k.a. Cyclops and Madelyne Prior, Jean Grey's clone. The character was sent to the future and came back to join the X-Men. Cable has both been an enemy and ally to Deadpool ever since.
Meanwhile, according to Collider, 'Deadpool' has officially become the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time and is about to topple previous 'X-Men' films in earnings. Although the Miller's film is still third in rank in domestic markets, behind Clint Eastwood's 'American Sniper' and Mel Gibson's 'The Passion of Christ', it continues to dominate international markets. The unlikely box office hit may overtake Bryan Singer's 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' should its popularity continue to gain ground in the next months.
Ryan Reynolds is set to return as the titular anti-hero for a second time, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. He described his character as best he could in a previous interview. He said, "He's a character that's aware he's in a film, he's aware that he breaks the fourth wall... I mean, he does certain things that are unlike anything else in the X-Men universe yet he is a part of the X-Men universe."
The preceding film's charm may lie far beyond its twisted sense of humor, extreme violence, heavy nudity and cheesy pop culture references. Perhaps it was the invigorating take on the seemingly generic superhero film formula of the good guys versus the bad guys - with Deadpool being both himself.
'Deadpool 2' is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film intended as the sequel to Tim Miller's first film of the same name. Miller will return to direct lead actor Ryan Reynolds for a second time.
