T-Mobile’s Galaxy S2 T989 Gets Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Upgrade via CyanogenMod 13 Nightly ROM: How to Install

Samsung Galaxy S2 units of T-Mobile just received upgrade support for Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow via CyanogenMod 13 (CM13) Nightly custom ROM. CyanogenMod 13 Nightly brings tweaks for theme options and several other exciting features.

Samsung Galaxy S2 units of T-Mobile with model number T989 can now proceed to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow as CyanogenMod 13 releases support for the phone. CyanogenMod 13 Nightly comes packed with Marshmallow feature Doze, customizable notification drawer and a lot more.

For rooted phones, CM13 Nightly update for Marshmallow will come over the air. Meanwhile, the ROM is expected to bring fixes on play queue problems and group permissions of the SD card.

Before pushing CM13 Nightly on the Galaxy S2, ensure that Galaxy S2 being used is the right model. By installing this ROM, device owners are expected to abide by the rules of the ROM. Hence, this site nor developers of the CM13 Nightly will be held responsible for any damage that may occur during and after the process.

Take note of the following prerequisites:

1. Install TWRP Recovery here.

2. Back up all necessary data here.

3. Connect the device to any PC using a USB driver.

Here is the step-by-step guide on how to download and install CM13 Nightly on Samsung Galaxy S2 T989:

1. Download Android 6.0.1 CM13 Nightly ROM here and Google Apps Package here on PC.

2. Mount phone to PC using the USB cable.

3. Copy downloaded files from PC then paste to phone's memory or SD card.

4. Turn off phone and plug it out from the PC.

5. Go to Recovery Mode by press holding volume up, home and power buttons together.

6. Choose 'Wipe' to delete of data and 'Wipe Cache Partition'.

7. Go to main menu and choose 'Install zip from SD card.'

8. Select 'Choose zip from SD card.'

9. Repeat process for Google Apps Package.

10. Wait for the installation to complete.

11. When phone gets into any boot loops or other troubles, tap 'Wipe cache/dalvik' button.

12. Choose 'Reboot System'.

Verify the update now on Settings > About phone.
