Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 Receives Custom Marshmallow Upgrade Support via CyanogenMod 13 ROM: How to Install

Samsung Galaxy S3 is the latest phone to receive custom upgrade support for Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. CyanogenMod 13 (CM13) now supports the phone, providing it a ton of custom features that will revive an exciting Galaxy S3 user experience.

Samsung Galaxy S3 units with model number I9300 have just received support via CM13 custom ROM for upgrade to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. According to its latest change log, CM13 Nightly offers changes in themes provider, themes chooser, bug fixes and system UI tweaks and a lot more. In the next update, CM13 Nightly is envisioned to fix group permissions of the SD card root and the play queue crash.

However, before pushing the ROM on the device, make sure to use only Galaxy S3 phones, as mismatch of firmware binaries may cause severe damage. Neither this site nor developers of the CM13 Nightly will be held responsible for such damage.

Take note of the following prerequisites:

1. Install TWRP Recovery here.

2. Back up all necessary data here.

3. Connect the device to any PC using a USB driver.

Below is the step-by-step guide on how to download and install CM13 Nightly on Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300:

1. Download Android 6.0.1 CM13 NIghtly ROM here and Google Apps Package here on PC.

2. Mount phone to PC using the USB cable.

3. Copy downloaded files from PC then paste to phone's memory or SD card.

4. Turn off phone and plug it out from the PC.

5. Go to Recovery Mode by press holding volume up, home and power buttons together.

6. Choose 'Wipe' to delete of data and 'Wipe Cache Partition'.

7. Go to main menu and choose 'Install zip from SD card.'

8. Select 'Choose zip from SD card.'

9. Repeat process for Google Apps Package.

10. Wait for the installation to complete.

11. When phone gets into any boot loops or other troubles, tap 'Wipe cache/dalvik' button.

12. Choose 'Reboot System'.

Verify the update now on Settings > About phone.
