How To Train Your Dragon 3: Drago to return; Dean DeBlois hints war between humans, dragons

Hiccup and Toothless are set to continue their adventures in the upcoming How To Train Your Dragon 3. Recent plot speculations suggest the return of Drago, and the seemingly imminent parting of the Vikings and the dragons in the end.

Official details on the upcoming flick are currently under wraps as the project is still two years away from hitting the big screen. However, all plot hints delivered by director Dean DeBlois point out that Hiccup and Toothless' friendship may not last as long as many anticipate.

According to Ecumenical News, DeBlois revealed last year during Visual Effects Society Awards that the third film will feature Hiccup and Toothless as the rulers of their kind. "It's a dueling story where you have both characters trying to do what's right for their kind, and an eventual outcome where Hiccup is able to stand on his own", DeBlois said.

He also revealed that it will be the final parts of Hiccup's coming of age and will be set in the time that was set in Cressida Cowell's book. As reported by Movie News Guide, the book ended with an adult Hiccup who looked back to the time when the dragons still existed, thus, hinting a possible war between humans and dragons in the third film.

In another post by the trade, it is speculated that the third film will feature Hiccup but will also center on the return of Drago who DeBlois said would eventually become more complex in the upcoming feature.

Jay Baruchel, Cate Blanchett, Gerard Butler, America Ferrera, and Djimon Hounsou are expected to return to voice the characters of Hiccup, Valka, Stoick, Astrid, and Drago respectively. How To Train Your Dragon 3 is written and directed by Dean DeBlois and is set to hit theaters on June 29, 2018.
