Filming is temporarily halted for the upcoming third film in the YA franchise The Maze Runner: Death Cure after star Dylan O'Brien was injured on set. Director Wes Ball took to social media to express his thoughts about the matter.

Franchise star Dylan O'Brien was rushed to the hospital after meeting an accident on set in Canada. According to Den of Geek, the actor's injuries were not fatal but has gravity on them, which prompted 20th Century Fox to clarify that they will temporarily stop filming while O'Brien is recovering.

"Dylan O'Brien was injured yesterday while filming Maze Runner: The Death Cure in Vancouver, Canada. He was immediately transferred to a local hospital for observation and treatment. Production on the film will be shut down while he recovers. Our thoughts go out to Dylan for a full and speedy recovery.", the studio said in their official statement.

Moreover, director Wes Ball has also expressed his sentiment on the matter saying that he was "overwhelmed with feelings of anger, sadness, and guilt. He also added that the accident left him with deep love and respect for O'Brien, and asserted that the actor is a "tough cookie" and will recover soon. As reported by Stuff, the photo of Ball's letter was posted in his Twitter account, where he also apologized for all parties who have been affected by the accident.

The Maze Runner: Death Cure is the third film in the YA franchise that will feature Thomas' adventure to find the potential cure for the "Flare". However, according to Movie News Guide, the film is highly speculated to deviate from its source novel as it will feature a one year time jump from the second film, which allows room for alteration. Aside from that, the second movie also had its alterations one of which was when Minho was captured by WCKD that was not indicated in the book.

The Maze Runner: Death Cure is directed by Wes Ball from screenplay written by T.S. Nowlin from the novel written by James Dashner. It stars Maya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Ki Hong Lee, and Dexter Darden among many others. It is set to hit theaters on February 17, 2017.
