Matt Damon is set to return to reprise his role as the titular character in 'Bourne 5,' which is officially entitled 'Jason Bourne'. Damon revealed bits of details on the sequel's plot, while speculations suggest that it could be his last outing as the amnesiac assassin.
After sitting out in Bourne Legacy, Damon is back as Jason Bourne several years after the events of The Bourne Ultimatum. According to MNR Daily, the plot of the upcoming flick is inspired by the NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden and will center on topics of national security and the hidden agenda of the government.
An official first look of the movie was also released during the Super Bowl showing where Jason Bourne went during the past 12 years of his disappearance. Per Mstars News the film is expected to be action-packed as teased in the video where Tommy Lee Jones' CIA head Robert Dewey asked Bourne why he returned, while Jason also told Nicky Parsons that he remembered everything.
According to Damon, Jason's return will be galvanized by conflicts, "Well I don't know how much I should say. We talked a lot about what state he should be in, and where we came to was that if you found him fat and happy and content, you don't really have a movie. So we talked about how at the end of Bourne Ultimatum, he gets his memory back and it kind of completed that identity journey for him, but does that complete thing for the character or not?"
As reported by Ecumenical News, such statement from Damon could be an indication that the upcoming movie will be the final installment, or at least for the character of Jason Bourne. Damon also revealed that the film will open with an austerity in Athens, which would influence the later parts of the film.
Paul Greengrass is set to return to direct the upcoming Jason Bourne, which also stars Alicia Vikander, Julia Stiles, and Vincent Cassell. It is written by Damon, Greengrass, and Christopher Rouse and is set to hit theaters in July 29, 2016.
