'Avengers: Infinity War' is an upcoming science-fiction and action film directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. Its storyline will be set-up by the upcoming 'Captain America: Civil War' scheduled to be released on May 6, 2016. Brand new characters will be introduced into the MCU in the new films.

According to What Culture, the Russo Brothers' upcoming 'Captain America: Civil War' starring Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. will set up the events of the epic two-part 'Avengers: Infinity War' scheduled to be released in 2018 and 2019.

For one, Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange will make an appearance in the post-credits scene before he is introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 'Avengers: Infinity War' part one. It will also cement Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther as the peacekeeping superhero between the two warring Avengers factions forged in 'Civil War'.

Meanwhile, Anthony Russo revealed that they are looking to build on One Shots, a collection of short films that will focus on side plots and secondary characters. He said, "We can't go into too many details about this but we are thinking, very specifically, about [how] to do new ways of what you are talking about with Avengers: Infinity War. We're just in the beginning phases of figuring them out. Yes, DVDs are gone, but there is this wonderful internet platform out there called YouTube."

According to Cinema Blend, these One Shots will help integrate numerous characters into the MCU as well as form connections between the different films in the franchise. These One Shots will be released over time, aiming to revive fan interest in the series thereby producing continuing interest for future releases.

The upcoming back-to-back installments for 'Avengers: Infinity War' is set to feature a barrage of brand new characters never-before-seen in past MCU films. According to Comicbook, the two films are reportedly the biggest ones in Marvel's long-running superhero franchise.

Joe Russo revealed, "New characters are going to appear in Avengers: Infinity War... It's a big sprawling ambitious movie, it's about as ambitious as movies get and it should be, and the title alone indicates that there will be an incredible scape and scope to it."

His brother Anthony added that it in intended to culminate the shared cinematic universe in many ways. He revealed are still in the outline phase of the screenplay so it would be difficult to expand more on their plans for the upcoming films.

'Avengers: Infinity War' is a two-part installment in the MCU's Phase Three. Part One is scheduled to be released on May 4, 2018 while Part Two will premiere a year later on May 3, 2019.
