‘Spider-Man’ Reboot gets official working title? Sally Field criticizes Andrew Garfield’s ‘Amazing Spider-Man’

'Spider-Man' reboot may finally have its official working title in the form of a 'Seinfeld' reference. Sally Field, who played Aunt May in Marc Webb's 'The Amazing Spider-Man', admitted that she was not happy with the film. She revealed that she only took on the role of Aunt May as a favor to a friend.

According to Comicbook, the yet untitled 'Spider-Man' reboot starring Tom Holland in the titular role finally gets its working title. It is reportedly a reference to the 156th episode of the popular television series 'Seinfeld'. It is entitled "Summer of George". The episode, originally aired in May 1997, doesn't seem to bear any Marvel reference but it may hint at what to expect for Holland's character.

Meanwhile, Sally Field, who played Aunt May in Marc Webb's reboot 'The Amazing Spider-Man', didn't have good things to say about the film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 69-year old Academy Award-winning actress admitted that she was not a fan of the series and was not pleased with the end result released in June 2012.

Field said, "It's not my kind of movie... But my friend Laura Ziskin was the producer, and we knew it would be her last film. She was my first producing partner, and she was a spectacular human. ... It was really just for my friend." She did commend Garfield's performance as well as their on-screen relationship as aunt and nephew calling him a "lovely actor".

Webb's rebooted films starred Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man and Emma Stone as his love interest Gwen Stacy. Development for the film began following the cancellation of fourth film in the original cinematic releases starring Tobey Maguire as the webslinging superhero. 'The Amazing Spider-Man' was a box office success and yielded to a sequel 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2', released in 2014.

According to another article by ET, Webb's sequel underperformed at the box office and received mixed reviews from fans and critics alike. The sequel managed to earn $709 million against a $255 million budget and became the lowest grossing film in the series despite being considered a "blockbuster hit" in the international box office. Subsequent installments planned were cancelled and this ended Garfield's run as Spider-Man.

Tom Holland will take over as the new Spidey with Marisa Tomei playing the younger version of Aunt May. The reboot helmed by Jon Watts is intended as part of the plan for the series' integration into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Holland will make his on-screen debut in the upcoming 'Captain America: Civil War' starring Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr.

'Spider-Man' reboot is an upcoming adventure-fantasy film intended as part of the ever-growing MCU. It is directed by Jon Watts with a screenplay by John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein. It is scheduled to be released on July 7, 2017.
