‘Men In Black 4’ crossover with ’23 Jump Street’ moves forward; Younger actors to replace Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones

'Men In Black 4' will crossover with '23 Jump Street' in a new ambitious project by Sony. Although 'Jump Street' actors Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will be reprising their roles in the film, 'Men In Black' leading men Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will not.

According to The Verge, it was revealed that Sony's plan of creating a crossover film between blockbuster hits 'Men In Black' and 'Jump Street' might actually be pushing through. The plan to merge the two franchises together through 'Men In Black 4' and '23 Jump Street' was initially leaked after Sony's system was hacked but it seems that the studio is willing to overlook it.

It was reported by Hit Fix that James Bobin is in negotiations to serve as the planned film's director. The English filmmaker is best known for his work on the big-screen adaptation 'The Muppets' back in 2011 as well as hit television show 'Flight of the Concords'. He is also set to direct the upcoming 'Alice Through the Looking Glass' starring Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen.

Production is set to begin sometime in June this year but is yet to be officially greenlit. Rodney Rotham, screenwriter for '22 Jump Street', is set to pen the new script.

According to Moviepilot, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum of the 'Jump Street' series are set to reprise their roles as Morton Schmidt and Greg Jenko, respectively. However, it was reported that 'Men In Black' mainstays Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will not be back for a fourth time as Agents J and K. Sony may be looking to recast the two lead roles with younger actors to help revive the aging science-fiction franchise.

Agents J and K were first introduced in the original 1997 release 'Men In Black'. They are agents of a secret organization tasked at regulating and supervising extraterrestrial lifeforms that have covertly assimilated into regular human society.

The film received international acclaim and earned $589 million, against a $90 million budget. It also received Oscar nominations for Best Art Direction and Best Original Score and won one for Best Makeup. Two sequels followed in 2002 and 2012.

'Men In Black 4' is a planned comedy and science-fiction film to crossover with the equally popular '23 Jump Street'. It may star Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill but will not see the return of Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith.
