‘Spider-Man’ Reboot 2017: Tom Holland finds a leading lady in Zendaya Coleman? ‘Venom’ spin-off film in development

'Spider-Man' reboot is an upcoming adventure-fantasy film intended as a reboot of Marvel's superhero franchise of the same name. Zendaya has recently been cast alongside Tom Holland, who plays the titular webslinger. A new 'Venom' spin-off film is also in the works.

According to The Wrap, 19-year old actress and singer Zendaya Coleman, professionally known as Zendaya, joins the new cast for Sony's reboot of the popular 'Spider-Man' cinematic series. Although her role for the upcoming film is still being kept under wraps, sources revealed that it may not be a lead role.

She joins Tom Holland who plays Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man. Marisa Tomei will also be in the film as Peter's Aunt May.

According to Deadline, Zendaya has been one of the actresses who tested for a character named Michelle. It remains unknown whether Michelle is one of Holland's on-screen love interests. In the original comic books, Peter only had relationships with Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy.

Zendaya broke into the entertainment industry with her role on Disney's 'Shake It Up' with co-star Bella Thorne. She went on to release tracks that landed on Billboard Hot 100 and signed a deal with Disney's Hollywood Records for her first solo album.

The rising star went on to work in other television projects including 'PrankStars', 'Frenemies', 'Zapped' and 'K.C. Undercover'. She also appeared on 'America's Next Top Model' and 'Dancing with the Stars'. Her first big break for the silver screen was for 2013's 'Super Buddies' and will be featured in an animated film 'Duck Duck Goose' set for release in 2016.

Meanwhile, a 'Venom' spin-off film is reportedly in the works. According to i09.com, one of the 'Spider-Man' franchise's most dangerous villains will get an expanded movie universe of his own. Interestingly, it will not be connected to any of Holland's films in the MCU.

The yet-untitled reboot is directed by Jon Watts and penned for the big screen by John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein. It is currently in pre-production and is scheduled to be released on July 7, 2017 in the United States.
