‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’: Sylvester Stallone to play a Nova or Ravager? James Gunn teases new plot

'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' may feature Sylvester Stallone is rumored as part of the new cast and may play either a member of the Nova Corps of a Ravager. Director James Gunn teased that his new film will explore more of the characters.

Stallone was recently spotted on the filming set in Atlanta, Georgia holding a script. This immediately sparked rumors of his involvement in James Gunn's highly-anticipated sequel. He was rumored to play Star-Lord's father but new reports say otherwise.

According to Cosmic Book News, the Oscar-nominated actor star may be playing a member of the Nova Corps since an unnamed source on-set revealed that his costume "looks a lot like Judge Dredd". Judge Dredd is a fictional character in British pop culture, who was featured in his own film in 1995. 'Judge Dredd', directed by Danny Cannon, starred Stallone as the titular Joseph Dredd.

Meanwhile, the Nova Corps is a fictional intergalactic military and police force of Xandar's Nova Empire. Their costumes in Gunn's film resembled that of Judge Dredd's, thus fueling the speculation of Stallone's role in 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2'.

However, a conflicting report from Moviepilot revealed that Stallone would be playing one of Yondu's Ravagers and has already completed several scenes. Yondu Udonta was introduced as a game hunter of the Zatoan tribe, who lead a group of pirates and smugglers called the Ravagers.

Yondu and his group abducted Peter Quill to return him to his father but neglected to do so, keeping him as one of them. Yondu eventually trained Peter to become a Ravager but is later betrayed by his own protégé.

No official confirmation has been made regarding Stallone's role in the new film. Marvel Studios refused to comment on his attachment to the project as of the present.

Gunn's sequel has commenced in Atlanta's Pinewood Studios in Georgia, with the film's target debut date slated for May 5, 2017. According to Den of Geek, Gunn hinted that the upcoming film will explore more of the characters as well as introduce new ones that will play major roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

He added, "I think there's a combination of some new world-building, combined with getting to know the world we already know a little bit better, just taking a closer look at everything to get to know things a little bit more intimately as opposed to seeing in very broad terms what some of these cultures are - like, getting to know them very up close and personal".

'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' is an upcoming action and science-fiction film written and directed by James Gunn. It stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, Karen Gillan, Kurt Russell and Dave Bautista. It is scheduled to be released on May 5, 2017 and is part of the MCU's Phase Three.
