‘Iron Man 4’: Robert Downey, Jr. considers ‘Captain America: Civil War’as sequel for Tony Stark

By

'Iron Man 4' is a planned action-adventure and science-fiction film intended as a follow up to 2013's 'Iron Man 3'. Robert Downey Jr., who plays Tony Stark a.k.a. Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), admitted that he already considers the upcoming 'Captain America; Civil War' to be his own sequel.

According to Moviepilot, 'Civil War' may be Robert Downey Jr.'s final outing as Iron Man in the MCU since the actor didn't quite offer an optimistic view of a standalone film happening again. When asked about the sequel for his standalone series of films, he said, "I don't think ['Iron Man 4'] is in the cards."

The highly-acclaimed 50-year old actor first appeared in Jon Favreau's 'Iron Man' released in 2008 and he went on to do the sequels that followed in 2010 and 2013. Talk of a fourth installment in the Iron Man solo films began emerging since last year but its actual development has not been confirmed as of the present.

'Iron Man 3' director Shane Black previously revealed that the Downey Jr.'s contract with Marvel Studios expired following the release of the third film but may be extended for his roles on 'Avengers' films and a final 'Iron Man' film.

Downey Jr. is set to reprise his character in Joe and Anthony Russo's 'Civil War' set to premiere in U.S. theaters on May 6, 2016. Speculations emerged that his character's major role in Cap's film may set his own solo film back indefinitely.

According to Comic Book.com, the actor explained, "In a way ['Civil War' is 'Captain America 3'] but for me it's like my little 'Iron Man 4' and then it's back to the thing we all recognize. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that's how it is until it changes. If it changes."

Downey Jr. recently traded humorous invectives on Twitter with his 'Civil War' co-star Chris Evans, who plays the titular Captain America, over the recent MCU release, 'Deadpool'. According to Entertainment Weekly, the two warred over which team Ryan Reynold's Merc with a Mouth would end up siding with in the upcoming film.

They will battle it out on the big screen as allies-turned-enemies. It is unclear how the film's plot will affect later releases in Marvel's shared franchise.

'Iron Man 4' is a planned action-adventure and science-fiction film intended as a sequel to 'Iron Man 3' released in 2013. No confirmation of the film pushing through has been made at present.
