Apple to release iPhone 7 with OLED display in 2017; Limited to new iPhone’s premium models only

By

The Apple iPhone 7 with OLED display is rescheduled for release in 2017. Due to limited supply, Apple will make OLED display available only to the iPhone 7 Plus or the rumored iPhone 7 Pro.

Apple partnered with South Korean display suppliers LG and Samsung for the possible production of an iPhone 7 with OLED display. There have been several reports regarding the change of the release date for the iPhone 7. Apple Insider confirmed that Apple has decided to change its previous 2018 plan for the iPhone 7 with OLED siplay. This month, Apple has officially announced that the iPhone 7 with OLED display will be launched in 2017.

Apple is apparently looking for new ideas in order to increase its iPhone sales for the years to come. Based on the report of Mac Rumors, one of the strategies that Apple has been considering is the use of curved OLED displays in its future smartphones. Samsung and LG are expected to produce Apple's OLED panels. To be exact, Samsung alone is planning to manufacture 45,000 OLED panels per month this year. However, Apple's OLED display would likely be available exclusively to the iPhone 7 Plus or the rumored iPhone Pro due to possible supply limitations.

BitBag added that Apple normally reserves major upgrades in the components exclusively for specific iPhone releases. This year, Apple is planning to redesign its iPhone 7. Speculations pointed that Apple would integrate features such as 3D touch in the iPhone 7. Also, iPhones are not the only ones being upgraded but LG is reported to have invested a huge amount of capital into building OLED displays for the Apple Watch.

Rumor has it that Apple is trying to compensate the expected stall in iPhone sales. In addition, several analysts such as KGI Securities Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that Apple will unlikely to fully adopt OLED displays until 2019. However, Apple has already assured consumers that its contract with suppliers allows for timeline adjustments and the production of OLED display could be started just as planned.
