Android 6.0 Marshmallow global rollout for Sony Xperia Z5 series brings new home launcher, latest security patches; No adoptable storage?

Sony has begun the Android 6.0 Marshmallow global rollout for Xperia Z5 series, offering a new home launcher and February security patches. It seems that the update does not include adoptable storage and STAMINA mode.

Xperia Blog announced that the worldwide release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow to Xperia Z5 series officially started on March 7. Owners of said devices may now upgrade their phones to the latest Marshmallow platform with build number 32.1.A.1.163. Xperia Z5 variants as well as the Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia Z5 Premium are now getting the firmware.

The software download offers Android 6.0 and not the latest 6.0.1 update. It does, however, bring the latest security patches for February to eligible devices. Xperia Z5 users can now enjoy the goodies brought by Marshmallow.

According to Lawyer Herald, Android 6.0 Marshmallow brings new features that will improve user experience on Android. Such are the app permissions, Doze battery manager, Google Now on Tap, Direct Share, enhanced app drawer, Android Pay, and support for fingerprint sensor. Sony also added a new home launcher to the update.

However, Sony said that it did not include STAMINA mode in Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the Xperia Z5 line, but promised to bring it back in the next update. There is also no adoptable storage feature just like in the Samsung Galaxy S7. This means that users will not be able to use microSD cards as internal storage for Xperia Z5.

Android Headlines reported that the Xperia Z3+ and Z4 Tablet will be receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow together with the Xperia Z5 series. However, Sony provided no specific date or location yet of the rollout on these devices.

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow global rollout for the Xperia Z5 series followed after the update arrived at the said devices in Japan under carrier NTT DoCoMo. It was not revealed when the update will come to the U.S. but since the global rollout started, it could happen soon.
