The Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA update is now available for download on the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. Verizon is the first among U.S. carriers to release its own version of Marshmallow on the Galaxy Note 5.

Samsung has officially released the Marshmallow software upgrade for the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. International Business Times claimed that, Verizon is the first U.S. carrier to release its version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. Verizon's own features, such as Wi-Fi Calling and YouTube Broadcast, are included in the software upgrade. The Marshmallow software upgrade for the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 also offers the newest edition of TouchWiz UI. In addition, Samsung Internet 4.0 browser and Cross App multitasking features were also upgraded.

Based on the report of Tech Times, many technology observers were surprised with the changes made by Verizon. Previously, Samsung announced that Android 6.0 Marshmallow will undergo beta testing on the Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S6 edge+ in the Verizon program, while AT&T's program covered the Galaxy Note 5 together with AT&T's version of the Galaxy S6 edge. However, Verizon altered its program and is now rolling out the update OTA (over the air) to the Galaxy Note 5, ahead of AT&T and T-Mobile.

Many have anticipated that AT&T would be the first U.S. carrier to release Marshmallow update to the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. However, it might take a while for AT&T to release the software update since it is still in the beta testing process. On the other hand, T-Mobile is still in the manufacturer development phase. This means that AT&T and T-Mobile customers will have to wait for a while for the Marshmallow update to land on their Galaxy Note 5 handsets.

Meanwhile, Lawyer Herald reported that an Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow custom ROM is available for the Galaxy S5 LTE. The Marshmallow custom ROM for the Galaxy S5 features was reported to have a stable build and features a Vanilla AOSP interface.

Aside from Samsung, HTC has also begun rolling out Android Marshmallow to its devices. Reports say that the HTC One M8 will get the update starting March 7, as per Mo Versi, HTC's vice president. T-Mobile will handle the Marshmallow release to HTC One M8 phones.
