The first glimpse of the Power Rangers was recently revealed showing the five main leads as normal teenagers. Director Dean Israelite revealed details on what to expect from the characters, costume, and the entire film.

A new sneak peek at the official cast to play as the Power Rangers was released by Entertainment Weekly. The photo shows Becky G., Naomi Scott, Ludi Lin, RJ Cyler, and Dacre Montgomery as the new set of teenagers set to don the Power Rangers costume.

As reported by /Film, the film's synopsis tells about five teenagers who learn about the imminent danger posed by an enemy toward their town, Angel Grove, and the entire world. "Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover that they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so they will have to overcome their real-life issues and band together as the Power Rangers before it is too late.", the synopsis continued.

The next generation of heroes is expected to fight against Rita Repulsa who will be portrayed by The Hunger Games actress, Elizabeth Banks. According to the Hindustan Times, director Dean Israelite has revealed his excitement for Banks' portrayal of the role.

The director stated that the actress "loves the opportunity to really embrace the insanity and deliciousness of Rita Repulsa in terms of how weird and wonderful that character was, and really dive into and consume that character."

Pertaining to the characters, Israelite stated that diversity is their priority. "From the very beginning, diversity was a very important part of the whole process," Israelite said. "We switched all of the races around, but we made sure that the essence of each of those characters are who they were in the original show, and this really will be an origin story of those characters."

According to the director, Power Rangers will be a coming of age flick. He also added that the new film will feature edgier suits for the Rangers that will be worked on by Weta Workshop. Israelite is set to direct the upcoming feature, written by John Gatins, Max Landis, Matt Sazama, Ashley Miller, Burk Sharpless, and Zack Stentz. It is set to hit theaters on March 24, 2017.
