The live action movie version of Assassin's Creed is yet to release its first trailer but as early as now, a sequel is already part of the long-term plans for the franchise. The producers have already been tapped, but the cast and director's return are yet to be confirmed.

As reported by Eurogamer, a sequel for the movie version of the popular video game is already in the works. New Regency has tapped Ubisoft Motion Pictures producer Jean-Julien Baronnet, Kennedy-Marshall Company's Frank Marshall, and DMC Films' Conor McCaughen and Michael Fassbender.

Plot and cast details are currently unknown, although Fassbender's return is likely since he is set to co-produce the flick. Moreover, as reported by Polygon, Assassin's Creed is currently in post production after filming was completed in January. Head of content Aymar Azaïzia shared a photo on Twitter of the cast and crew in a studio, announcing the last filming day for the movie.

According to CinemaBlend, early glimpses of the movie have earned positive response which bodes well for the feature, although the general public's reception to the big screen adaptation is yet to be known until its release in December. The Assassin's Creed movie is another one of Hollywood's attempts at making movie versions of popular video games even though most of the movies released in the past did not receive the best reviews.

The Assassin's Creed movie centers on Fassbender's character, Callum Lynch, who discovers his lineage as a descendant of the society of assassins. He is linked to a machine where he is made to access the memories of his ancestors in the 15th century.

Assassin's Creed is directed by Justin Kurzel, and written by Bill Collage, Adam Cooper, and Michael Lesslie. It stars Jeremy Irons, Michael Kenneth Williams, Ariane Labed, and Brendan Gleeson among many others. It is set to hit theaters in December 21, 2016.
