'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' is an upcoming action and science-fiction film intended as a follow up to the 2014 release of the same name. Oscar-nominee Sylvester Stallone may have made a cameo in the new film after being spotted on the filming set in Atlanta. He is rumored to play Star-Lord's mysterious father.
According to IGN, speculations of Stallone's involvement in the second installment in Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy' cinematic series have erupted online after the actor was spotted on the filming set holding a script. Although Marvel Studios refused to comment on his attachment to the project, it may be possible that Stallone will be playing Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord's mysterious father instead of Kurt Russell.
The 69-year old action star was recently nominated for an Academy Award for his work on Ryan Coogler's sports drama film 'Creed' after he reprised his role as the iconic Rocky Balboa. He is also famous for his work on the 'Rambo' franchise as well as 'The Expendables' series. He was also inducted into the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame.
According to another article by The Daily Mail, director James Gunn's sequel has commenced in Atlanta's Pinewood Studios in Georgia, with the film's target debut date slated for May 5, 2017. Stallone allegedly filmed his first cameo as in a superhero film. In addition to original stars, Russell has joined in to play a yet unnamed character.
Zoe Saldana returns as Gamora, Chris Pratt as Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Racoon, Vin Diesel as Groot, Dave Baustista as Drax, Karen Gillan as Nebula and Michael Rooker as Yondu. It is produced by Kevin Feige and co-produced by Lars P. Winther.
According to NY Daily News, 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' will follow Gunn's 2014 release based on the Marvel superhero team of the same name. Its predecessor was considered the tenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and followed Peter Quill's tense alliance with other extraterrestrial oddities in order to attain a powerful artifact. The first film earned $773 million against a $195 million budget and became the highest-grossing superhero film of 2014.
'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' is an upcoming action and science-fiction film written and directed by James Gunn. It is scheduled to be released on May 5, 2017 and is part of the MCU's Phase Three.
