‘James Bond 25’ in the works; Producers look for real-world inspiration, Daniel Craig not quitting yet?

'James Bond 25' is a planned sequel based on the fictional agent of the same name. Development has begun moving forward with producers looking to real-world events as inspiration for the new plot. Daniel Craig, who played the titular spy in the last four films in the series, may not be quitting just yet.

According to Collider, the 25th installment in the spy action franchise has begun development and producers have turned to real-world events for inspiration. Associate producer Gregg Wilson revealed, "We've just begun to doodle with ideas for the next movie. Each script process begins when we ask ourselves the question: "What is the world afraid of now?" In the case of Spectre the theme was global monitoring and utilization of information. So now we are trying to find out what will be relevant in the coming years."

Wilson added that they are pushing to give fans something new especially when it came to the titular agent James bond. He said, "...often it helps to go back to Ian Fleming's novels for inspiration, whether you're talking about grades or mood."

The James Bond series follows the exploits of a fictional British Secret Service agent, a character created by novelist Ian Fleming in 1953. The films, 24 to date, are the longest running and third highest-grossing films in the history of the movie industry.

The cinematic series began with 1962's 'Dr. No' starring Sean Connery as the titular agent 007. Roger Moore, George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan have portrayed the lead protagonist in different films in the franchise, with Daniel Craig as the latest James Bond. Craig took over in 2006's 'Casino Royale' and went on to film 'Quantum of Solace', 'Skyfall' and 'Spectre'.

It remains unclear whether Craig will return to reprise his role for a fifth time. According to /Film, the 48-year old English actor previously admitted that he would rather "slit his wrists" than do another James Bond movie. However, he retracted his statements in succeeding interviews.

Mark Strong, Craig's personal friend and fellow actor, said that the chances of Craig's return in future films in the franchise are slim. He said, "Do you know what, I'd have loved to have played the villain in a Bond movie while Daniel was doing it because he's a pal and that would have been great... But I think he's come to the end of his Bond time and so it's probably never going to happen..."

Meanwhile, Craig's representative insisted that his client is not quitting the franchise just yet. According to The Independent, previous rumors suggested that Craig will not be returning for 'James Bond 25' because of his commitment to the television series 'Purity'. However, the representative said that it didn't mean the actor couldn't do both projects at the same time.

'James Bond 25' is a planned sequel based on the fictional agent of the same name. It follows 2015's 'Spectre', directed by Sam Mendez and starring Daniel Craig.
