'Suicide Squad' is an upcoming action film directed and written by David Ayer. Actress Margot Robbie, who plays super villain Harley Quinn, revealed that she almost took her character's original red and black costume to the big-screen. She admitted that she was more excited for the film than anyone else.
According to Blaster, Robbie almost took Harley Quinn's classic court jester look in black and red to the big-screen adaptation but opted out of it eventually.
During an interview with Hello Giggles, she revealed, "Oh, we tried on every variation of the costume. I cannot emphasis enough how many outfits, and how many variations of the Harley Quinn costume we tried. We tried the court jester costume, we tried the corset and skirt, we tried leather pants, we tried literally every type of costume possible for her. I really love where we ended up." She hinted that they may pull off Harley's iconic look in future sequels.
The Australian actress will be portraying Joker's psychotic ally and lover in David Ayer's upcoming live-action adaptation of DC's comic book team of the same name. Harley Quinn, originally introduced in the comic books as young psychiatrist Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel, is an ostentatious supervillain and recurring antagonist in the 'Batman' series. She is often portrayed as a humorous, mentally unstable yet loyal sidekick to Joker, played by Jared Leto in the upcoming film.
Robbie's on-screen interpretation of the anti-heroine looks more urban - with a torn up wife beater, dual-colored jacket, studded belt and hot pants. She has Harley's signature pale-faced makeup, pigtails and she carries a dirty baseball bat.
The 25-year old beauty expressed her excitement over the film scheduled to be released on August 5, 2016. According to Entertainment Weekly, she beamed, "I think I'm more excited than anyone about this movie... When people are like, 'I can't wait to see it.' I'm like, 'You've got no idea, I want to see it more than you do!' I think it's going to be so cool."
Robbie catapulted to international stardom for her work on 2013's 'The Wolf of Wall Street' alongside Academy Award-winner Leonardo DiCaprio. She went on to star in films such as 'Focus', 'Z for Zachariah', 'The Big Short', 'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot' and 'Suite Francaise'. She is set to star in 'The Legend of Tarzan' as Jane Porter, which is currently in post-production.
According to Coming Soon, Robbie and Leto are joined by Will Smith as Deadshot, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevigne as Enchantress, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Ben Affleck as Batman and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. It follows a group of dangerous supervillain inmates as they are recruited to work for the government in exchange for pardon.
