‘Divergent: Ascendant’ gets Lee Toland Krieger as new director; Shailene Woodley talks about unconventional lifestyle

'Divergent: Ascendant' is an upcoming science-fiction action film intended as the last in the 'Divergent' cinematic series. It gains Lee Toland Krieger, director of 'Celeste and Jesse Forever', after Robert Schwentke exited the project. Leading actress Shailene Woodley talked about living an unconventional lifestyle independent of material possessions.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the last installment in the 'Divergent' series of films will be helmed by Lee Toland Krieger after losing its 'The Divergent Series: Insurgent' and 'The Divergent Series: Allegiant' director Robert Schwentke.

It was reported that although Schwentke exited the project, he still remains in good terms with Lionsgate. Schwentke reportedly needed do another film after wrapping up 'Insurgent' and 'Allegiant' back-to-back. The filmmaker is best known for his work on as 'Red', 'R.I.P.D.', 'Flightplan' and 'The Time Traveler's Wife'.

Krieger is currently under negotiations to direct the last live-action adaptation of Veronica Roth's bestselling young adult novels of the same name. In 2008, he directed 'The Vicious Kind', which premiered at the Sundance Festival and earned him numerous accolades including the Emerging Filmmaker Award. He went on to work on 'Celeste and Jesse Forever', which starred Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg.

'Divergent: Ascendant' is the second part of Roth's final book in the trilogy and is scheduled to be released on June 9, 2017. According to Screen Rant, Krieger is set to direct returning stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, Octavia Spencer, Miles Teller, Zoe Kravitz and Naomi Watts.

Woodley and James are set to reprise their roles as Beatrice 'Tris' Prior and Tobias 'Four' Eaton, respectively. The final film will follow the two as they journey out of the walled city of Chicago only to stumble on newer, more dangerous obstacles as well as mysterious agencies such as the Bureau of Genetic Welfare.

According to Bustle, Woodley is known to live an unconventional lifestyle off-screen, including giving up her cellphone and her car. She revealed that she intended to live a full life independent from material possessions. The 24-year old actress admitted that she only traveled with four clothing essentials during a recent backpacking trip saying that they were the only things she needed.
