Although Sony Mobile has been slow in releasing the Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware update, it has proven that the company is working hard in delivering the software. Recently, the Japanese tech company has started rolling out the Marshmallow software for the Sony Xperia Z5 series handsets in Japan.
According to International Business Times, Sony Mobile has released the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA update for the owners of Sony Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia Z5 Premium in Japan. It was also rumored that other Sony Xperia Z5 owners as well as other Xperia Z series devices are going to obtain the Android 6.0 software upgrade really soon.
DoCoMo, a Japanese carrier, has started rolling out the Android 6.0 firmware update for owners of Xperia Z5 series smartphones. Since Sony has begun releasing the Android 6.0 for Japanese users of Z5 series, it is more probable that the Marshmallow upgrade will be made available to users outside Japan in a little while.
Before updating the Sony Xperia Z5 handsets to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, users of the devices should keep in mind that they have to check their important data stored in the smartphone. Also, they have to always back up their files. They also have to keep in mind that when performing an upgrade, they will not be able to revert to a previous version. Users should also close all the apps before updating to Android Marshmallow. During the upgrade, owners of Xperia Z5 handsets should not turn off the power and just in case the battery is low, they will have to plug the handset. Lastly, during the upgrade they will not be able to perform any functions including sending and receiving of calls.
Additionally, Android Headlines stated that the Android M update introduces several new features to Xperia Z5 handset which include Runtime Permissions, Doze mode for improved battery performance and Google Now on Tap, which brings the functionality of Google Now to every app. A lot of changes have been made to the user interface as well, just like the new Xperia Home launcher. Other UI changes contain those in the camera app, which lets the Xperia Z5 owners to easily shift between modes through simple swipe gestures.
Also, the recent apps screen obtained a small visual tweak as well and now hides the toolbar at the bottom of the screen once the device handler scrolls through the list of recent applications. There's a new "Edit" button in the notification area as well, which can be utilized to easily add and customize the list of quick toggles. The new launcher also gives the capability to choose among different transitions effects when switching between panels.
Nevertheless, there is no official schedule yet as to when Android 6.0 Marshmallow will be released on the Sony Xperia Z5 series outside Japan. But the recent roll out is a good sign that the upgrade is just around the corner.
