Although the Android 6.0 Marshmallow has been released months ago, many are still waiting for the firmware update to hit their smartphones. Sony, one of the smartphone manufacturers who have promised to deliver the upgrade, recently released the Android M status for Sony Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact, Z5 Premium, Z4, and Z3 Series and other Xperia devices.
According to Gospel Herald, Sony UK just accredited that Xperia handsets are going to start obtaining the Android 6.0 Marshmallow firmware starting March 7. The Japanese tech company has confirmed that the first set of devices to receive such software include Xperia Z3 +, the Z4 tablet, and the rest of the Z5 series including the Z5, Z5 Premium, and the Z5 Compact.
The March 7 release schedule was also confirmed by some news institutions which highlighted that the new firmware has already been certified by the BTRCB for Xperia Z3+ with a build number 32.1.A.0.434. As a matter of fact, it was in December last year when the Z4, Z5, and Z5 Premium were said to be already running the Marshmallow firmware and made a visit to the Wi-Fi certification database. This basically pointed to an imminent arrival of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow software.
It was noted that in the beginning of February this year, Sony has launched a beta program specific to the Z3, Z3 Compact, Z2 in Italy, as well as the Netherlands and Spain. Nevertheless, if the March 7 release is proven to be accurate, then it is safe to assume that the global rollout will be coming, particularly in the United States.
Aside from the aforementioned handsets, Neurogadget gave the list of other Xperia devices that are eligible for the Marshmallow update. These handsets will reportedly skip Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and proceed with the Android 6.0. The list includes Xperia C4, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua, Xperia M5, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet
Unluckily, the Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z1 Compact, which were released in 2013, and the first Xperia Z series are not eligible for latest firmware. But the users can still install the Android 6.0.1 CM13 Marshmallow Custom Firmware on the Xperia Z or the Unofficial Pure Android Marshmallow ROM (created by XDA dev Ev3rtH) on the Xperia Z1.
Furthermore, it is not just the update that keeps the tech giant busy. Morning News USA noted that Sony is also slated to release a new mid-ranger named as the Sony Xperia X. This smartphone should hit the market shelves around summer. Its features include a hexa-core Snapdragon 650 processor, two cores running at 1.8GHz and four clocked at 1.4GHz, 3GB RAM and 5.0-inch display with 1080 resolution. Nevertheless, there is no pricing available yet.
As the release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow for Sony Xperia devices becomes imminent, users of the above mentioned handsets could expect the firmware to hit their devices pretty soon. Moreover, they could also anticipate another mid-range handset from the Japanese tech.
