Huawei has been well-known for producing smartphones, but the Chinese tech company also ventured on producing smart watches. Recently, it was announced that the Huawei Watch has started receiving the Android 6.0 Marshmallow bringing some enhancements and new features to the device.
According to 9to5Google, Huawei Watch owners would be very glad as the latest version of Android Wear is now bringing the software up to Marshmallow level. The said OS for Huawei Watch has started rolling out last Tuesday, March 1. The Chinese tech company has announced the update in a thread on the Huawei Community forum, writing "The Huawei Watch update will be version 6.0, release MEC23L. This will be an OTA due for release beginning today."
The said Android 6.0 firmware for the wearables is also expected to bring new features and enhancements to the device. Tech Times noted that the new software will bring new gestures for navigating the Huawei Watch. Owners of this device can just flick their wrist for scrolling up or down a card stream.
Android also stated that users can also expand a card to bring up their apps, or return home to their watch face with a push, lift or shake. They will also be able to stay connected to what's important, while keeping their phone (or other hand) inside their pocket.
Upon updating with the Android 6.0 Wearable software, Huawei Watch users will be able to send messages with voice instructions. With the software update, users will be able to send messages through Google Hangouts, WeChat, Nextplus, Viber and Telegram.
Meanwhile, it can be remembered that the Huawei Watch has in-built speakers but the initial version of Android Wear does not support them. With the latest Android Wear 1.4, users will be able to use the in-built speakers of the Huawei smart watch for making calls and listening to voice messages. Also, they will be able to take or make calls over Bluetooth following the software update.
Aside from the key enhancements mentioned above, another improvement Huawei Watch owners noticed is the battery improvement in the smart watch. The software update also brings support for a number of languages including Thai, Dutch, Polish, Indonesian, Cantonese and Mandarin.
Moreover, in manually checking the update, PhoneDog stated that users will have to go into Settings > About > System updates.
The Huawei Watch is the company's first smart watch that was released at the 2015 Mobile World Congress (MWC). The wearable hit the market shelves in September 2015 with the Android Wear pre-installed.
