'Charlie's Angels' is an upcoming reboot of the popular television series of the same name from the 1970s. It will be produced and directed by Elizabeth Banks as she makes a transition from acting to filmmaking. Banks may be pushing for a hard R-rating for the upcoming remake.
According to The Movie Network, the newest reboot for one of television's most iconic series from the 1970s may be reimagined as a film with a hard R-rating. Sony's planned remake will feature Hollywood sweetheart Elizabeth Banks not as a cast member but as director. Banks and her husband Max Handelman will also be producing the new film through their Universal-based company Brownstone.
Although no rating has been set in stone just yet, Banks admitted that she had no problem pushing for any kind of potential rating for the 'Charlie's Angels' reimagining.
According to HNGN, the 42-year old actress-turned-filmmaker said, "I mean, honestly I don't worry about the rating so much. It's not, it's definitely not an initial consideration when I'm working on something I think you have to work with the studio, whoever is putting the movie out, whoever is giving you the money, and understand who the audience for the movie is, and then you make the movie for the audience."
Banks made her directorial debut for the 2015 musical comedy film 'Pitch Perfect 2'. It received generally positive reviews and grossed $287 million at the box office. Her film became the highest-grossing musical comedy film, surpassing the 2003 comedy film 'School of Rock' starring Jack Black and Joan Cusack.
Meanwhile, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Evan Spiliotopolous has also been confirmed as the writer for the new screenplay. Spiliotopolous worked on several Disney-based direct-to-video films including 'Tarzan 2', 'Cinderella 3' and 'The Lion King 1 ½'. He is also attached with 'The Huntsman: Winter's War' as well as the upcoming live-action 'Beauty and the Beast' film starring Emma Watson and Luke Evans.
'Charlie's Angels' is an upcoming reboot of the original crime drama television series initially starring Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith and Farrah Fawcett. Elizabeth Banks is set to direct a screenplay written by Evan Spiliotopolous. It is intended as the series' second reboot on the big-screen, after the 2000 action comedy film starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu.
