'Avengers: Infinity War' is a two-part installment in the MCU's Phase Three. It will feature new as well as original characters in the MCU including Stellan Skarsgard, who plays Dr. Erik Selvig. Joe Russo, one-half of the filmmaking duo helming the two films, explained that their upcoming back-to-back installment will be unique from films preceding it.
According to Coming Soon, Skarsgard may make an appearance in the upcoming two-part installment of 'Avengers: Infinity War'. Skarsgard's Dr. Erik Selvig appeared on the preceding 'Thor' and 'Avengers' films namely 'Thor', 'Thor: The Dark World', 'The Avengers' and 'Avengers: Age of Ultron'.
Skarsgard hinted, "I have a five-film deal with them, and they still have one option... Thor 3 is not on my slate, but maybe the next Avengers." He also said that he may be the one to bear the news of Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet to the team of superheroes since his character has powers of super-exposition.
His character was introduced in the 2011 release 'Thor' as an astrophysicist who worked with Natalie Portman's Jane Foster and Kat Denning's Darcy Lewis. He was one of the first Earthlings to encounter the powerful Asgardian prince Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth. Dr. Erik Selvig was eventually recruited as a consultant for S.H.I.E.L.D. as well as recruited for the New Avengers Facility.
According to MovieWeb, producer and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige hinted that the third installment in the 'Thor' series will be set outside of Earth, making it quite clear that Dr. Selvig, Jane and Darcy may have little to no roles in the film. However, Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner a.k.a. The Hulk will be reintroduced back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) through the film.
Joe and Anthony Russo will be directing the upcoming 'Avengers: Infinity War' films following 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' director Joss Whedon's exit from the MCU. The filmmaking duo previously hinted that fans of the original comic book series will not be disappointed as their film will be host to a massive number of characters in addition to the old line-up of superheroes.
According to /Film, Joe Russo explained that the 'Infinity War' films will play out much differently compared to their other films 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' and 'Captain America: Civil War'.
He said, "We also are going to work really hard to bring a psychological realism. We obviously can't bring a naturalism to it because it doesn't really exist outside of science fiction, but we can bring that psychological realism to it, to the characters, and that's going to be our focus... Also, it's going to be our focus to explore the cosmic side, applying the same rules that we like to apply to the last two films that we've done."
'Avengers: Infinity War' is an upcoming science-fiction and action film directed by Joe and Anthony Russo. Part One is scheduled to be released on May 4, 2018 while Part Two will premiere on May 3, 2019.
