Microsoft Corporation has been planning to expand its market through its very owned operating system, Windows. Recently, the American multinational company was reportedly preparing Windows 10 Mobile ROMs for Xiaomi Mi 5, OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 2.
According to Tech Times, the owners of OnePlus 2 handset will be among the first to get the Windows 10 Mobile ROM. It was also reported that Microsoft aims to launch its ROM to handsets that are not even on the market yet, such as the OnePlus 3 and the Xiaomi Mi 5. The latter made its first appearance at the MWC, but is yet to go on sale.
Additionally, this move was reportedly patterned as Xiaomi released its Mi Pad 2 tablet carrying two OS's: the Windows 10 and the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Another speculation have surfaced indicating that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will come in the same variants. There are talks, however, stating that the Mi 5 will lack an embedded Windows 10 Mobile version, but a Microsoft ROM, the mobile version of Windows 10, will be released capable to run on the device.
It can also be remembered that Microsoft has released a Windows 10 ROM for the Xiaomi Mi 4 and Tech2 noted that flashing the ROM was a simple process. Users of Mi 4 will just have to head to Xiaomi's forums, download the flashing tool and ROM and follow some other instructions. The entire process don't take more than a few minutes. Moreover, the response to the OS was mixed as it is very unusual to an Android user to easily switch for Windows. But Microsoft is still hoping for better success this time around.
For reference, Microsoft's Windows Mobile OS has a very negligible global market share compared to Google's Android with 84 percent plus and Apple iOS having 13 percent plus. This move of joining hands with Android-affiliated OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), Microsoft is expecting to increase its mobile market share in the coming years.
In the past, the company has exhibited keen interest in introducing its popular proprietary software Microsoft Office, which wasexclusive before to Windows, Android and Apple-based mobile and PC devices. Now, Microsoft has even tied-up with the world's most popular aftermarket custom Android ROM maker Cyanogen to introduce built-in Microsoft associated apps in its software.
Microsoft Corporation hopes it could expand its market through the Windows 10 Mobile ROM. Nevertheless, this will be not that easy as a lot of smartphone users favor with Android and iOS devices.
