More than two months ago, Microsoft has released the Windows 10 Mobile ROM for Xiaomi Mi 4. Now, the American multinational company is aiming to deliver the similar firmware to Xiaomi Mi 5, OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 2.
International Business Times stated that Microsoft officials are in communication with local smartphone manufacturers Xiaomi and OnePlus. This is to bring Windows 10 Mobile ROM to respective flagship phones Mi 5, OnePlus 2 and the soon-to-be-unveiled OnePlus 3.
It can be remembered that Microsoft's Window Mobile OS has a very negligible global market share compared to Google's Android with 84 percent plus and Apple iOS having 13 percent plus. With this move of joining hands with Android affiliated OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), Microsoft is expecting to increase its mobile market share in the coming years.
In the past, the company has exhibited keen interest in introducing its popular proprietary software Microsoft Office, which was before exclusive to Windows devices, to Android and Apple-based mobile and PC devices. Now, Microsoft has even tied-up with the world's most popular aftermarket custom Android ROM maker Cyanogen to introduce built-in Microsoft associated apps in its software.
TechnoBuffalo also noted that the idea behind these ROMs is to open up Windows 10 Mobile to more people for them to be familiar with it. Microsoft also hopes that Android users will be attracted to try its new software and users would like it so much that they will stick with it and eventually buy Windows 10 Mobile gadgets.
Aside from the above mentioned handset, NDTV Gadget reported that Microsoft has started seeding the Windows 10 Mobile build to Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL on Wednesday. The company stated that it is currently releasing Windows 10 Mobile builds to handsets that are only shipped with Windows 10 Mobile like Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL, Lumia 550, and Lumia 650.
Microsoft is indeed planning to expand its market by getting some from the Google and Apple's own OS. As the Windows 10 Mobile ROMs will be released to Xiaomi Mi 5, OnePlus 2 and OnePlus 3, this may be a good start for the company to encourage Android phone users to shift to its own OS.
