OnePlus One phones can now be updated to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow using a custom ROM developed through the Android Ice Cold Project (AICP). The ROM brings the Vanilla user interface and some tweaks and improvements to make the phone stable throughout the Marshmallow experience.
There is no official Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update yet for OnePlus One as of this time, but the update can still be installed on the device using the AICP software. The custom ROM based on the latest Android build has already been made available to other phones like Samsung Galaxy S5.
Particularly, OnePlus One variant eligible for the update is known as Bacon. According to Team Android, the custom build brings a host of customization options on top of the Android AOSP user interface, called Vanilla. Aside from which, the AICP ROM also offers new tweaks and improvements, plus a more stable performance.
It is highly recommended to back up all necessary data stored on the phone, including the downloaded apps, since installing the ROM will clear all memory spaces of the device. Charge up the phone to at least 80% to prevent power interruption which might cause damage on the phone.
Before deciding to download and install the ROM to the phone, here are a few things that should be done:
1. Never try the ROM on other versions or models.
2. Download and install USB driver for this version.
3. Enable USB debugging mode from developer menu.
4. Download and install a custom recovery tool on the phone like CWM or TWRP.
5. Back up necessary data.
