‘Ghostbusters’ Reboot: Toy leaked new villain Rowan; Ernie Hudson surprised with “very good” remake

By

'Ghostbusters' is an upcoming reboot of the classic film of the same name from the '80s. A new villain named Rowan was revealed through a toy during the New York Toy Fair 2016. Original cast member Ernie Hudson admitted that he was pleasantly surprised with the remake.

According to Comicbook.com, the upcoming reboot's newest villain has been revealed through a collectible made especially for the film. Toy blogger "PixelDan" shared the image of a toy ghost made by Mattel on his Instagram page during the New York Toy Fair 2016.

Although no additional details regarding the villain has been released as of the present, it was revealed that he will be called Rowan. According to Screen Crush, the snowman-like ghost figure will be played by former SNL writer-turned-actor Neil Casey.

Director Paul Feig offered more insight into Rowan saying, "Our villain ghost is an executed murderer, a Ted Kazinski type... who has left behind a manifesto of how he wants to change and destroy the world. When his execution is hit by a supercharged electrical storm, he is turned into a powerful ghost able to rouse other villainous spirits from the ghost world to carry out the ever-expanding plans of his manifesto."

Mattel also introduced six-inch action figures modelled after the four main actresses making up the new Ghostbusters team including Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones who play Erin Gilbert, Abby Yates, Jillian Holtzman and Patty Tolan, respectively. The toys are complete with the original movie outfits as well as proton packs and other accessories.

Meanwhile, most of the original cast members will be doing small cameos in the new 'Ghostbusters' reboot. Ernie Hudson, who played Winston Zeddemore in the original 'Ghostbusters' series from the 80s, said that he was impressed with the new cast as well as the film's plot and special effects. The actor previously criticized the planned reboot in the past saying that a female-led remake would be a "bad idea".

According to MovieWeb, Hudson seemed to have had a change of heart when he said, "They're extraordinarily funny and there's a great chemistry with them. I think it's going to be very good. The script I knew was good. I knew the special effects would be amazing. But I was really pleasantly surprised to see how the women kind of gelled together."

The 70-year old actor is set to appear in the new film together with original co-stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts although it was reported that they will not be sharing scenes.

'Ghostbusters' is an upcoming supernatural comedy co-written and directed by Paul Feig. It is scheduled to be released on July 15, 2016 and is a reboot of the franchise of the same name first released in the 1980s.
