'Maze Runner: Death Cure' Update: Filming starts on March with Wes Ball as director; Prequel movies may follow

Maze Runner: Death Cure, the last installment of 'The Maze Runner' trilogy, is set to be released on February, 2017. The film, like its two previous predecessors, will still be directed by Wes Ball and see the return of most cast members from the previous film.

With only a year left before the release of Maze Runner: Death Cure on the big screen, filming is expected to start soon, as shared by Korea Portal. Unlike other book-series-turned--movies' approach of dividing the last novel into two, Maze Runner: Death Cure will be adapted into one movie only.

However, fans may expect another movie from the popular young adult series as James Dasher, author of the trilogy, have written prequels for the trilogy -that is if Fox decide to extend their franchise on the works of Dasher.

KFTV divulges more by reporting that Maze Runner: Death Cure will have their shooting in Vancouver. The production is expected to start by the month of March and end on June. This follows their previous locations in Louisiana and New Mexico.

In related news, director Wes Ball had just recently signed a deal with Fox, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The deal covers a three-year contract which launches his company Oddball Entertainment. This will be established in the Century City headquarters and Ball will run it together with Joe Hartwick, Jr. Currently, Ball and Hartwick have two projects: 'In Search of Humans' and 'Fall of Gods'.

The Maze Runner is a science-fiction trilogy written by Dasher which was published in 2009. Its movie adaptation was first released on 2014 and was followed by a sequel on 2015. The films were all directed by Ball, with Dylan O'Brien on the lead role.
