‘Bourne 5’ officially titled ‘Jason Bourne’; Matt Damon teases a “deeper than Bourne Ultimatum" sequel

'Bourne 5', entitled 'Jason Bourne', is the latest installment in the action-spy series starring Matt Damon in the lead role. The actor revealed that the sequel will go "deeper than Ultimatum" and that it will conclude his character's journey in the first three films.

According to Den of Geek, the fifth installment in the spy-action franchise is official entitled 'Jason Bourne'. The film's first official trailer dropped at the recently concluded Super Bowl 50 and it featured the return of Matt Damon as the titular amnesiac CIA agent turned rogue. His character was first introduced in Doug Liman's 2002 release 'The Bourne Identity'.

Damon is joined by Julia Stiles, who will reprise her role as Nicky Parsons, as well as Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander and Vincent Cassel. The 45-year old actor portrayed Jason Bourne in the series' first three films namely 'The Bourne Identity', 'The Bourne Supremacy' and 'The Bourne Ultimatum'. He was replaced by Jeremy Renner as the new main protagonist in the fourth film 'The Bourne Legacy'.

Speculations of Renner's return as government operative Aaron Cross immediately emerged online, with reports saying that a crossover may happen between Damon and Renners' characters. However, according to Bustle, this may be highly unlikely although a planned sequel to 'The Bourne Legacy' may remain a possibility. The 2012 film received mixed reviews and underperformed at the box office, only drawing in $276 million against a $125 million budget.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Damon revealed that the upcoming film will be the conclusion to Jason Bourne's journey. He admitted, "It's part of the first three [movies], it's not a whole new chapter. It feels like the conclusion, even though we're not saying it's the conclusion, it feels like the conclusion of my identity journey. It goes deeper than Ultimatum, basically."

Damon also revealed that he enjoyed working with director Paul Greengrass saying that he would always be "comfortable" under his direction. He added, "I'm just reminded every day why I like working with him so much, with the way he attacks every problem. He's just so smart. I love working with him. I'm going to do as many movies as I can with him before they pack us away to the old folks home."

'Bourne 5' is an upcoming addition to the spy-thriller series starring Matt Damon as the main protagonist. It is co-written and directed by Paul Greengrass and is based on one of Robert Ludlum's popular novels of the same name. It is scheduled to be released on July 29, 2016.
