‘Ant-Man 2’ to begin drafting script with acclaimed writer Adam McKay; Paul Rudd discusses working with Marvel

'Ant-Man 2', otherwise known as 'Ant-Man and The Wasp, is an upcoming sequel to the 2015 superhero film of the same name. Critically acclaimed writer-director Adam McKay is confirmed to return to help write the new screenplay while Paul Rudd, who plays the titular superhero, talked about his experience with co-writing and working with Marvel.

According to Collider, McKay confirmed that he is returning to the writer's room for 'Ant-Man 2'. The 47-year old filmmaker penned the screenplay for the first film together with Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish and Paul Rudd. He announced, "We've been talking to Marvel actually. We just talked to them the other day, and it looks like I will be involved. I don't know if it's gonna be right from page one. But it looks like I will definitely be involved. There you go. There's a little headline for the fanboys!"

McKay is best known for his work on the popular sketch comedy television series 'Saturday Night Live', where he was head writer for two seasons. His 2015 film, 'The Big Short' with longtime collaborator Will Ferrell, was nominated for several accolades including the Academy Award for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay as well as BAFTA Awards for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.

According to Cinema Blend, McKay was set to replace original director Edgar Wright after he dropped from the project but ended up writing for the film instead. Peyton Reed is set to direct again with Paul Rudd reprising his role as Scott Lang a.k.a. Ant-Man and Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne a.k.a. The Wasp.

Rudd revealed that he had no idea how his character would get so popular, according to Superherohype. The actor admitted that when he signed up for the standalone film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), he wasn't aware that he would do more in the future. He said, "We are doing a second one, so those meetings are starting to be scheduled and underway as far as what it's going to be. We'll start writing it soon."

He also revealed that writing with Marvel was relatively "easy" and that it was great in terms of scheduling. He said, "I worked on 'Civil War' and I didn't really work on it for very long, but as far as 'Ant-Man 2,' I already know when that's going to go, so you just kind of plan accordingly. If anything comes along that I can film before or after and it works out time-wise and it makes sense, Marvel's been supportive."

'Ant-Man 2', or 'Ant-Man and the Wasp' is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film based on the Marvel comic book character of the same name. It is intended as the sequel to the original film released in 2015.
