'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' is set to feature Kurt Russell alongside Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana. He is rumored to portray Pratt's on-screen father. Meanwhile, Pratt revealed a brand new poster of the superhero team through his social media account.
According to All Media NY, Golden Globe nominee Kurt Russell has joined the latest line-up of James Gunn's second installment in the science-fiction and action series based on the Marvel superhero team of the same name. Although his character remains unknown, speculations emerged that he may be portraying Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord's mysterious father.
The 64-year old American actor is best known for his role on 1983's 'Silkwood', where he was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture. He also recently starred in Quentin Tarantino's Western film 'The Hateful Eight' as well as S. Craig Zahler's Western horror film 'Bone Tomahawk'. He is set to appear in the upcoming disaster drama 'Deepwater Horizon', which is currently in post-production.
According to CNET, director James Gunn announced Russell's involvement in the new film through a Facebook post. It read, "My favorite movie as a small child was The Strongest Man in the World [one of Russell's earlier films... so I'm glad to announce that, yes, Kurt Russell has joined our cast and, yes, he is more awesome a dude than I ever could have imagined." Along with the announcement, Gunn revealed that the sequel has now begun official principal photography in time for the scheduled release for May 7, 2017.
Meanwhile, leading man Chris Pratt shared a new poster of the upcoming film's characters through his personal Instagram account. As revealed by an article by Just Jared, the image showed Pratt's Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana's Gamora, Bradley Cooper's Rocket Racoon, Dave Bautista's Drax the Destroyer and Vin Diesel's Groot standing together and silhouetted by a strong light. Star-Lord's eyes are shown glowing red while baby Groot is seen perched on Drax's shoulder.
Other members making up the cast include Elizabeth Debicki, Karen Gillian, Pom Klementieff, Michael Rooker, Sean Gunn and Chris Sullivan.
'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' is an upcoming action and science-fiction film written and directed by James Gunn. Kevin Feige is set to produce the film, with Lars P. Winther co-producing. It is scheduled to be released on May 5, 2017.
