'One Piece Film: Gold' is the thirteenth film in the franchise created Eiichiro Oda scheduled to be released on July 23, 2016. It will reportedly be set on a gigantic ship city. New character designs revealed showed the newest antagonist Gildo Tesoro and his crew.

According to One Piece Podcast, the upcoming cinematic adaptation of the popular animated television series will be set on a gigantic ship that resembles a city. This ship city is reportedly acknowledged as an Independent State by the fictional World Government and has a massive length of ten kilometers.

The original Japanese manga series, regarded as the world's best-selling manga in history, was created by Eiichiro Oda and has been serialized by the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine since 1997. The series follows main protagonist Monkey D. Luffy and his crew of pirates named the Straw Hat Pirates. Luffy is in search of an earthly treasure called One Piece to become the next Pirate King.

The manga was eventually adapted into an anime series by production company Toei Animation and was broadcasted in 1999. To date, the anime has a total of 728 episodes.

Toei also adapted the series into thirteen full-feature animated films since 2000. These films are self-contained with original plot lines or are a reimagining of the original anime series.

According to Movie News Guide, a new character named Gildo Tesoro will be introduced into the franchise through the upcoming film. Gildo, the film's main antagonist, is in charge of the largest entertainment city in the world as well as its residents. He is described as a man with slicked back hair, wears a pink suit as well as a ton of jewelry.

Character drafts of Gildo and his crew were revealed in Weekly Shonen Jump's double issue 5-6, according to Crunchyroll.com. The sketches were provided by Oda himself. Although not much details of the film's plot were revealed, it was speculated that Luffy and his Straw Hat Pirates intend to carry on an attack on the giant ship but will be blocked by Gildo.

'One Piece Film: Gold' is the thirteenth film in the highly popular franchise and is directed by Hiroaki Miyamoto in his film debut with a screenplay penned by Tsutomu Kuroiwa. It is scheduled to be released on July 23, 2016 in Japan. It follows 'One Piece Film: Z' released last December 2012.
