Judge ruled singer Kesha to continue to work under Sony contract despite the sexual harassment and battery accusations towards the producer. The "Tiktok" hit maker has been attempting to released herself from Sony's label and has been in ongoing legal battle against the producer Dr. Luke over the said accusations.
The Huffington Post reported, Kesha's motion to release from her contract with Sony was dismissed by a court judge. On her filed complaint on 2014, the American singer, songwriter and rapper accused her producer under the Sony label, Lukasz Gottwald, also known as Dr. Luke of "sexual advances" towards her. She claimed that she was drugged and while under the influence of alcohol, she was "repeatedly sexually, physically, verbally and emotionally abused her for 10 years", according to her filings.
The 28 -year old singer then include Sony on her amended complaint on which she claims that the executives of the said company was aware of the misconduct. However "turned a blind eye" and failed to investigate the issue. She also accused that Sony had not taken "any corrective action" and concealed the said producer's abused. She added that the company has put her and other female artist in "physical danger."
During the court battle, Kesha was seen devastated and broke down in tears as the judge ruled she will continue working on Sony contract, according to Design & Trend. Kesha signed on Dr. Luke's label Kemisabe Records, which is under Sony. The decision came after the judge dismissed her lawyer's claims that Sony was "setting her up to fail" and won't promote her music, and should she work with someone aside from Gottwald.
Though, the judge denied her injunction to record outside of Sony, Kesha's fans continues to support the singer outside the courthouse and on her Twitter. Business Standard reported, the singer left a message of appreciation on Twitter, thanking her fans and saying, "I love all of you. It's meant the world to me." Other female artist, such as Lady Gaga, Lorde and Ariana Grande also expressed their supports towards the singer.
Kesha's fans began a petition called "Free Kesha," which urged people to sign and send a message to tell Sony not to force her to work with her alleged abuser. So far, the petition has more than 118,000 signatures.
