LG Electronics has launched K8, the newest family member of its K Series, in Europe featuring the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. It now joins the the LG K7 and K10 handset that the tech giant released earlier this year.
According to Tech Times, the LG K8 seems to have an identical size with the LG K7. Nevertheless, this handset has a higher resolution display. It also runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow as it comes out of the box. However, the rest of its specs and features may just be what tech enthusiasts should expect to see on a mid-range smartphone
The new LG K8 sports a 5-inch 720p HD display and is engineered with a quad-core 64-bit MediaTek MT6735 chipset. This mid-range smartphone is packed with 1.5 GB of RAM and an internal storage of 8 GB that can be further expanded by up to 32 GB through the handset's microSD card slot.
Other notable highlights include an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash, a 5-megapixel front camera, Mali T720 GPU, removable Li-Ion battery of 2,045mAh capacity and connectivity options that include LTE, Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi.
When it comes with the LG K8's availability, Ubergizmo noted that it is unknown if this smartphone will make its way stateside. But since the LG K7 has made its way onto T-Mobile, it is safe to conclude that it is possible for LG K8 to arrive eventually. But even if it didn't, those specs don't exactly scream high-end and there are possibilities that a lot more affordable low-mid range handsets will be coming out.
Additionally, 9to5Google stated on it article that as the LG K8 is released along with the unspectacular X cam and X screen, it signals that LG is clearly still trying to figure out how to compete with the new wave of budget-friendly smartphones that offer great specs and performance. With companies like Oppo, Huawei/Honor, Xiaomi and OnePlus unveiling premium looking, fast, high-end devices at low prices, it's pretty mysterious to see LG respond by launching a plethora of plastic, low end handsets that possibly may not compete with its rivals.
Aside from the mid-range LG K8, the South Korean tech company is also bound to release its flagship smartphone LG G5 at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016.
