Xiaomi Mi 5 Specs, Release Date Roundup: Device To Be Launched At MWC 2016 With Outstanding Features

By

Xiaomi has recently confirmed that its upcoming flagship device, the Mi 5, will be launched during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016. Just like its recent models, the upcoming smartphone is expected to be outstanding in terms of specs and design.

According to Blorge, many tech enthusiasts are anticipating that the upcoming flagship from Xiaomi would be just like the recent models it has released. Nevertheless, one thing is concrete and that is the Xiaomi Mi 5 will make its public appearance this February 24 at a press event. The information was publicly made by Hugo Barra, the OEM's global product director using his social networking page. This event will be held at Barcelona, Spain and as usual, Xiaomi will join other invited companies in showcasing its latest devices and technology during the invite-only media preview event at the MWC.

As for its specs and features, International Business Times stated that there are conflicting reports on the screen size of Xiaomi Mi 5. Numerous news have suggested that it might feature a 5.2-inch QHD touchscreen with 2,560x1,440 pixels while tje GFXBench listing claimed the device would have a 5.7-inch display with 1,920x1,080 pixels.

When it comes with the design, no reliable leak have surfaced so far except the one shared by a Weibo user and tweeted by Steve Hemmerstoffer of NowhereElseFr. The picture of the speculated Mi 5 device has a glass back panel that looks trendy.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 is predicted to be engineered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor clocking at 2.1GHz. It is anticipated to work hand-in-hand with an Adreno 530 GPU and run on Google's latest firmware, Android 6.0 Marshmallow. There are also talks stating that the Chinese tech company might releasea Windows 10 mobile variant, but it has not been confirmed yet.

Mi 5 is also speculated to arrive armed with a huge 16 GB and 64 GB internal memory, as well as a 3 GB of RAM. This handset is very unlikely to have a microSD card slot like its predecessor Mi4. As for the camera, Xiaomi's upcoming flagship device might boast a 16-MP main camera with OIS and an 8MP front-snapper. All of these will be powered by a 3,600mAh battery that has a Quick Charge v3.0 technology.

Android Headlines noted that Xiaomi showcased an extremely successful 2015, although the company failed to meet its sales goal. The Chinese tech company has targeted to sell somewhere between 80 and 100 million smartphones in 2015, but it only managed to ship out 70 million. Nonetheless, there is still an improvement compared to 2014 when the company was just able to sell around 61 million smartphones. With that, Xiaomi is currently the no. 1 Chinese smartphone manufacturer when it comes to sales within China. However, Huawei which runs second on China, is number one globally as it was able to sell 108 million smartphones worldwide.

If Xiaomi Mi 5 will be unveiled on February 24, it is expected to hit the market shelves by March. If the company plays its cards right on the upcoming device, it could expect a decent leap from its 2015 sales.
