The much-anticipated Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to make its first public appearance on February 24. This upcoming handset from the Chinese tech company is believed to launch along with the Mi Drone, a new technology explored by the company.
According to The Marshalltown, it was just last week when Hugo Barra, Xiaomi's Global Vice President, affirmed that the company will unveil the successor of its well-received Xiaomi Mi4, dubbed as the Xiaomi Mi5, on February 24 during its Spring Conference in Barcelona. The company is also reported to host an event at the Mobile Word Congress (MWC) for the first time.
Furthermore, Christian Post stated that the Xiaomi Mi 5 was recently spotted on GFXBench revealing some of its features. Based on the benchmarking, the Mi 5 will sport a 5.7-inch 1080p display. In addition, Xiaomi co-founder Liwan Jiang also confirmed that the upcoming handset will carry a Full HD panel instead of a quad HD display. He stated that there will be several technological progressions including a high-powered processor, but he did not disclose further details.
Nevertheless, the benchmark listing indicated that the Mi 5 may be engineered with a Snapdragon 820 processor and Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system. This device is also believed to arrive armed with a 16-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front snapper. As for its RAM, 3GB is expected, though there are some speculations saying that a 4 GB of RAM variant will be also made available.
The Xiaomi Mi 5 will have a 2.5D curved glass with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for protection and be powered by a massive 3,000 mAh battery which will be supported by Quick Charge 3.0 technology. Nonetheless, another speculation says it will be a 3,600 mAh battery. A fingerprint reader is also anticipated which is rumored to be the smallest and fastest scanner in the world. The device may also have support for NFC.
As for the Xiaomi Mi Drone, Chinatopix reported that its release was initially scheduled sometime back in 2015. But Xiaomi chose not to release it because of its similarity to DJI's Phantom drone in terms of the design.
December last year, a patent document was leaked showing how Xiaomi's Mi Drone technology will work in combination with the Mi Band fitness tracker. The Drone reportedly has the ability to follow users by their Mi Band trackers. This device is believed to arrive with an on-board camera, and be accessible with a price tag of 699 Yuan or about $106. Based on some speculations, the Xiaomi is planning to release around 10,000 Mi Drone units only.
Xiaomi is currently China's top smartphone manufacturer, ahead of Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. and Apple Inc. It currently develops a wide range of products such as smart TVs, smart band fitness trackers, air-purifiers, among others.
