By

Xiaomi is bound to unveil its upcoming Mi 5 flagship smartphone later this month. Recently, a speculation has surfaced indicating that the Xiaomi Mi 5 would have a Windows 10 variant.

As of this moment, there is no major smartphone manufacturer running Windows 10 Mobile OS on their devices other than Microsoft. Considering Xiaomi and Microsoft's past collaboration in building the Windows 10 Mobile ROM for Xiaomi Mi 4 smartphone, International Business Times preducts the Xiaomi Mi 5 device could have a variant with the tech giant's mobile OS. Rumors have it that it may be announced during the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016 tech trade show.

Additionally, the recently launched Mi Pad 2 tablet is also available in a Windows 10 Mobile variant.

Even though the Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to debut on Feb. 24, a teaser image from the company shows that this handset will be previewed at the MWC 2016 event. One of the leaked photos revealed that the Mi 5 will be available in four color variants namely; blue, gold, white and black.

When it comes to specs and features Android Headlines reported that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will be engineered with the Snapdragon 820 SoC. It is also confirmed that the Mi 5 will be shipped with a 1080p display, not a QHD one. Some talks were saying that the Mi 5 wil feature both 1080p and QHD display variants, but it seems like Xiaomi will only include a fullHD panel. The company's Senior VP also mentioned a 'Black Screen Technology' which will probably also be a part of the Mi 5.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to have a 5.1 or 5.2-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display, along with 3 / 4GB of RAM and different internal storage options. The device's Snapdragon chipset will be paired with an Adreno 530 GPU for graphics. This will be housed in an all-metal and glass plus metal body, though this is not yet confirmed.

Running on an Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Xiaomi's MIUI 7 OS, the upcoming flagship phone from Xiaomi will be powered by a 3,600mAh battery. A physical home button and a fingerprint scanner is also predicted to be included in the device.

As for the Xiaomi Mi 5's price, Leader Call stated that regardless if the variant is Android or Windows 10, handset it will cost under $500.

As always, the company has not confirmed the rumored new variant of its Xiaomi Mi 5. But if proven accurate, this comes as good news to Windows supporters and users.
