'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales' is moved up to May 2017 from its original scheduled release for July of the same year. It features the return of Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom as the leads Captain Jack Sparrow and Will Turner, respectively.
According to Alt Press, the fifth installment in the highly popular Disney franchise is set to premiere on May 26, 2017 - six weeks after its original scheduled release for July 7. The move comes after the successful debut of 'Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens' last December.
A statement issued by Disney read, "The move follows the extraordinary success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which was the first Star Wars movie to premiere in December... In the popular holiday movie-going corridor, it smashed numerous records, including biggest domestic and global debuts of all time as well as the biggest domestic second and third weekends, en route to becoming the highest grossing domestic release of all time with over $861M and the third biggest global release ever with $1.887B."
According to another article by /Film, the upcoming 'Star Wars' follow-up, Rian Johnson's 'Star Wars: Episode 8', is also expected to be released on December 15, 2017.
The new swashbuckler film starring Johnny Depp in the lead role as Captain Jack Sparrow will also see the return of Orlando Bloom as Will Turner/Davy Jones. Franchise favorite Geoffrey Rush is also reprising his role as the antagonistic Captain Hector Barbossa.
According to The Blemish, Javier Bardem stars as the film's newest antagonist. He will portray Captain Salazar, a malicious and powerful ghost pirate who seeks the Trident of Poseidon to destroy all his enemies including Captain Jack Sparrow. Newcomers Kaya Scodelario and Brenton Thwaites are joining the cast as lead characters Carina Smyth and Henry Turner, respectively.
'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales' is an upcoming action-adventure and comedy film intended as the fifth installment in the long-running Disney franchise.
