'The Maze Runner: Death Cure' is an upcoming science-fiction adventure film directed by Wes Ball. It was reported that Ball will begin filming in Vancouver in March in time for the scheduled release on February 2017.
According to Vancity Buzz, the final installment in the 'Maze Runner' cinematic trilogy is set to start filming in Vancouver on March 14. Unlike its other "trilogy" counterparts, it will not be split into two separate films. The upcoming science-fiction and adventure film will be helmed by Wes Ball, director of the two preceding films 'The Maze Runner' and 'Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials'.
The 'Maze Runner' cinematic trilogy is based on the best-selling young adult books by James Dashner. Development for the films began in 2011 when Fox purchased the rights to do a live-action adaptation of the books with Temple Hill Entertainment and TSG Entertainment. The first film brought in $384 million at the box office while its sequel earned $312 million.
According to KFTV, 'The Maze Runner: The Death Cure' will proceed with principal photography in Vancouver from March through June. The first film was shot in Louisiana while the second was shot in New Mexico. It was reported that the trilogy took advantage of generous filming incentives given to big-budget movie production across North America.
The new film follows the events after 'Scorch Trials' and is based on Dashner's novel of the same name published in October 2011. Dylan O'Brien of 'Teen Wolf' fame is set to return as the lead protagonist Thomas. The new plot focuses on Thomas' journey to find a cure to a deadly disease known as "The Flare".
According to Collider, 'The Maze Runner: The Death Cure' is scheduled to premiere in U.S. cinemas on February 17, 2017. It was also reported that two prequels entitled 'The Kill Order' and 'The Fever Code' are scheduled to be released sometime in 2016. Dashner himself expressed enthusiasm over having the two novels adapted for the big-screen as well.
'The Maze Runner: Death Cure' is an upcoming science-fiction adventure film intended as the third and final film in the 'Maze Runner' trilogy. It is a live-action adaptation of Dashner's third book in the young adult novels of the same name. It is scheduled to be released on February 17, 2017.
