HTC Desire 816G Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA Release: Can HTC Make It in February or March?

By

HTC was already confirmed since last year that it is releasing the official Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to its Desire 816G phones by the first quarter of the year. Since the device is still in the development stage until now, can HTC make it this month or in March?

HTC Desire 816G phones are now in development stage for Android 6.0 Marshmallow. As confirmed by You Mobile back in 2015, Marshmallow will hit Desire 816G phones in the first quarter of 2016. With barely two months left, HTC is still expected to roll out the latest software update of Android to these devices via over-the-air (OTA) release.

Last year, leaked reports pointed out that January-March 2016 will be the date for Marshmallow to be released on Desire 816G units. However,One M8 and One M9 are the only phones that were able to receive the update as soon as last month.

While currently running Sense 6.0 user interface (UI), it remains a mystery whether HTC will bring in Sense 7.0 to the device. Per list of You Mobile, the track site did not underline the possibility of the device to get the company's latest UI.

Moreover, in HTC's support page for software updates, it underscored its focus to provide timely software updates for HTC Sense technology and Google Android. There are no leaks as of now whether HTC has assimilated the latest Sense interface with Marshmallow for Desire 816G.

Meanwhile, HTC is currently testing the Android 5.0 Lollipop for the device which is supposed to bring the Sense 6.0 while its first maintenance release is still in evaluation. If HTC is yet to roll out Android 5.1 Lollipop, it certainly means there is no Marshmallow update coming for the device around April.

Desire 816G was first released in October 2014 with preinstalled Android 4.4.2 KitKat. It has a 5.5-inch HD display. It runs on 1.3 Ghz quad-core MediaTek processor, 1.5 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage expandable to 32 GB, 13 MP main camera, 5 MP front camera, and a 2600 mAh battery.
