LG Electronics has confirmed that it will be announcing its 2016 flagship handset on February 21. Known as the LG G5, the new smartphone is expected to sport dual cameras, an accessory slot and other interesting specs.
According to PC Advisor, trailing LG's custom in releasing flagship device, tech enthusiasts has expected that the LG G5 will be launched in late-spring 2016 and go on sale by May or June. But in mid-January, a 'Save The Date' invite has surfaced suggesting LG would hold a press event a day before the MWC wherein its next flagship handset might debut. If this is certainly the G5, just like what everyone expects, the smartphone could go on sale as early as March.
Recently, LG has confirmed through a social networking site that the company will indeed be launching the LG G5 on February 21. It tweeted an image in gif form with the caption: "Time to play! With new friends, comes new fun. The excitement begins in Barcelona on February 21st!"
When it comes to specifications, India Today reported that LG G5 might adopt a new camera system. Based on leaked case renders, it has suggested that LG could adopt a dual-camera setup for the G5. The South Korean tech could also use a dual LED flash where the color of the diodes is the same.
The upcoming flagship smartphone from LG is also expected to have a removable battery. It was reported that the G5 will continue LG's legacy of manufacturing handsets with removable batteries. The G5 is also predicted to feature a metal body but with a modular design allowing users to slide out the battery of the device.
Additionally, the LG G5 is also anticipated to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, which was publicized at the fag-end of the year. The Snapdragon 820 characterizes Qualcomm returning a custom ARM architecture and a power efficient quad-core layout. Qualcomm will be using its new custom Kryo cores that are reportedly a mile faster than the Snapdragon 810 processor and more efficient and cooler for a beastly performance.
Additionally, TechnoBuffalo predicted a fingerprint reader at the back of the handset which will be placed below the new camera array. There is also a volume rocker along the side and a charging port on the bottom which is most likely with USB-C support. Moreover, it seems like the headphone jack and speakers may also be positioned on the bottom edge of the device.
Lastly, it was also cited that the LG G5 will run on Android and will likely be based on Marshmallow, but it might have some LG-made customizations.
While LG Electronics has confirmed the LG G5's debut, its specs are still kept under the wraps. Nevertheless, with LG's event approaching, it won't be long before fans get their hands on the device to try out its new features.
