Players of Fallout 4 may have encountered a game-breaking glitch that barred them from completing the final mission of the game, aside from the DLCs. Thankfully, the new patch final fixes that problem, as well as adding some new features and fixes to the game content.
Many players have complained of a persistent glitch that prevents players from finishing the game. Unfortunately, the glitch was also very common, and practically calls for the player to use other glitches just to proceed. Wesley Yin-Poole's review of Fallout 4 on Eurogamer details the extent of the glitch, the so-called "fix" and expresses disappointment over needing to "break" the game just to finish it, a sentiment generally expressed by the fanbase. To this effect, many players have simply given up playing, or have had to resort to restarting or resetting their games.
Earlier on January, Bethesda updated the Steam page for Fallout 4 with a beta patch update announcement, with the Railroad Quest glitch listed under the Quest Fixes section. The beta patch updates, to those who don't know, are only available on the Steam Edition, and lets Bethesda gather feedback from players and weed out any new problems that emerge. Aside from this, the patch notes include "general memory and stability improvements", some gameplay improvements and balancing, and bugfixes for other glitches encountered during quests. New features were also added, such as ambience controls, new weapon debris effects, and status menus for settlers.
The full update was released on February 1, with full patch notes available on the game's Steam page and the official Bethesda blog. However, this update was met with derision by many fans. The new update has apparently caused stuttering during play and other graphics issues. The game itself now loads slower as well, though Bethesda has said that a future update would take care of the issue. Fans also feel as if the patch came too late, as many of them have stopped playing after encountering several glitches. Even so, the update was recieved with mostly positive reactions by fans who find the improvements to be acceptable.
Fallout 4 is available for Microsoft Windows, via Steam, Xbox One and the Playstation 4.The update is currently available for the Steam version, with the update for the Xbox One and Playstation 4 to be released later this week.
