A lot of flagship handsets from different smartphone makers are now receiving the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. Recently, the Sony Xperia Z5 and Z3 handsets have obtained the beta version of the software upgrade.
According to Christian Post, the Marshmallow 6.0 updates for the Sony Xperia Z5 and Z4 handsets have been certified by the Wi-Fi alliance. With this, Sony might be able to roll out the update to Sony Xperia phones this month.
Based on the article the Android 6.0 update for Sony Xperia Z5 is expected to arrive in the middle of February. Sony Xperia Z5 Premium and Z5 Compact, will be the first batch of Sony phones to obtain the Marshmallow update. On the other hand, the Xperia Z2, Z3, and Z4 will be the next batch of smartphones to get the firmware update later.
Additionally, Sony is said to be currently conducting beta testing on its Marshmallow Concept, its concept beta version of the update. Marshmallow Concept is accessible to selected smartphones only including Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact.
Neurogadget added that upon upgrading to Android 6.0 Marshmallow Concept, users of the Xperia Z3 devices would experience an increase the battery life when working together with the Doze feature. Sony hasn't included the Google Now Launcher, but users who need this app can download it separately. Moreover, there are many elements that make the software look like Vanilla Android, these include the lock screen, notification share, on-screen keys, contacts app or phone dialer.
The Japanese tech giant also added other applications such as Camera app with AR effects, Album, Music app and the new launcher which is similar to that of the stock Android. Similarly, the Concept Marshmallow firmware has support for theme pack, grid-style menu and many more.
Furthermore, the beta testers enrolled in the program to test out the Marshmallow Concept software will have send feedback on Sony's official Google+ group. This is to help the developers identify and fix bugs. It will also improve the stability and performance of the firmware.
As for the other devices eligible for the Marshmallow software, Gospel Herald stated that the Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia M5, Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M4 Aqua and Xperia C4 are also entitled to receive it soon.
Although Sony hasn't confirmed the roll out schedule yet, one thing is sure; the Japanese tech company is already prepping to deliver the Marshmallow firmware to its handsets.
