'Transformers 5' Updates: Michael Bay to direct his final 'Transformers' movie; 3 more sequels slated in the next 10 years

Michael Bay will return to the director's seat for the fifth installment of the "Transformers" franchise. The director of the robot-dominated action film dropped the bomb on the setting for the new film as well.

In an interview with The Rolling Stone, Michael Bay revealed that he would be working on the upcoming "Transformers 5" film, but confirmed that this would be his last "Transformers" project.

"I'm doing Transformers ... 5, is it? I've taken on a lot of work. ... It's fun to do a movie that 100 million people will see. But this is the last one. I have to pass the reins to someone else. J.J. [Abrams] told me, 'You're the only guy that could do this.' But it's time to move on. One more," Bay said.

According to Movie News Guide, Michael Bay said that "Transformers 5" will be filmed in Chicago.

The Windy City has seen a lot of "Transformer" action than most. "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" (third movie) and "Transformers: Age of Extinction" (fourth movie) were both filmed in Chicago.

When asked if he was going to blow up Michigan Avenue again, which was the background for the main fight scene in the third "Transformers" movie, Bay said they were going to find a new street.

The script for "Transformers 5" will be written by "Black Hawk Down" scriptwriter Ken Nolan and "Iron Man" writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, The Wrap noted. Mark Walhberg has also signed up to reprise his role as Cade Yeager from "Transformers: Age of Extinction". However, it is still not certain if Nicola Peltz will return as Yeager's daughter Tessa.

Hasbro President Stephen J. Davis also confirmed that four more movies are being planned for the "Transformers" franchise, all of which will span throughout a 10-year timetable. Davis said that nine creative writers spearheaded by Akiva Goldsman, who penned "A Beautiful Mind," have plotted the next 10 years for the "Transformers" movie universe. That said, fans will have "Transformers" 5, 6, 7 and 8 to look forward to.

The story for "Transformers 5" will feature two storylines. The first will focus on Cade Yeager's story. The second will follow Optimus Prime's journey as he searches for his creators, The Quintessons.

Meanwhile, Optimus Prime and his comrades are rumored to face a new enemy in the figure of the Unicron, a robot that is the same size as the Earth. There's a good chance "Transformers 5" will take place in Earth and space, making the chances of a Unicron appearance plausible.

Paramount Pictures and Hasbro are aiming for a 2017 release for "Transformers 5".
